FOR VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT AND HOMELESSNESS
The Turning Point Wish list
Friends of Turning Point,
Turning Point is committed to helping victims/survivors of domestic and sexual violence regain control of their lives through emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy and a Forensic Nurse Examiners Program for victims of sexual assault. Each year, Turning Point provides shelter to more than 450 women and children and counseling and advocacy services to over 5,000 individuals. In addition to our emergency services we are also working on the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault. Annually, this program provides more than 7,500 teens with the resources to confront domestic and sexual violence in their own lives and in their peer culture.
Our work is possible thanks to the support of people in the community. Turning Point's services are provided to survivors and their family at no charge. Our ability to do so is tied directly to the generosity of our community. Many of the donations that we receive are given immediately to Turning Point clients in need. Other donations help families all year long and provide necessities for the shelter's day-to-day operation. If you are interested in contributing to Turning Point, please consider the following suggestions:
GIFT CARDS to neighboring stores. Gift cards allow women to shop for themselves and their families: a very empowering act. Gift cards also help our staff buy items for the shelter when in-kind donations are low, such as canned food, milk and eggs.
CASH DONATIONS are so vital to keeping the shelter open. Cash donations help us keep the lights and heat on! You can designate your gift to go to where it is most needed, our general operating fund, or to any program you would like to support. Cash donations allow us to help survivors become independent by paying their first month's rent or security deposits for new homes, to purchase motel vouchers when the shelter is full, and to purchase Greyhound bus tickets when a family has no choice but to relocate to another state for safety.
SHELTER ITEMS that are needed year-round can be found on our wish list. We have put together some ideas by themes which makes it fun for community, church or work groups to come together to help Turning Point. All donations can be dropped off to Second Hand Rose at 158 S. Main, Mt. Clemens. Donation drop off times are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Feel free to call (586) 463-4430 if you have any questions.
