VICTIM'S COMPENSATION
Michigan's Crime Victim's Compensation Program is committed to helping victims and their families by easing the financial burden that violet crime imposed upon them. Covered expenses include counseling, medical costs, loss od earnings or support, cash loss of benefits and funeral expenses. You may be eligible for Crime Victim's Compensation if:
- The crime occured in Michigan.
- The crime was reported to the proper authorities within 48 hours.
- The victim has cooperated with law enforcement and the courts.
- The claim is filed within one year after the crime.
- The victim was not engaged in illegal activity.
- Minimum loss requirements are met.
Additional Information
- In case of death, a claim may be filed by a family member. This may include funeral expenses.
- Expenses or losses covered by personal insurance or that can be paid by another source will not be covered.
- Incomplete applications can result in long delays in claim determination.
- Most claims will processed within 4 to 6 months.
- Minimum loss requirements may be waived for victims retired by reason of age or disability and for victims of criminal sexual conduct.
- Property is NOT covered.
