FOR VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT AND HOMELESSNESS

  PREVENTION EDUCATION

The problem of violence against women and children is rooted in the societal abuse of power in the form of sexism, racism, homophobia and classism. Turning Point is dedicated to the development of model programs that address the root causes of domestic and sexual violence. It is our mission to end violence against women and children.

The Prevention Education program focuses on changing societal norms to create a more supportive environment for survivors as well as decrease attitudes in society that may support abuse of women and children.

Empowering With Knowledge: Awareness Education for Youth

Turning Point's Prevention Education Program works to empower youth, helping them find their voice when they are bystanders to violence, giving them the confidence to confront the behaviors and attitudes of their peers. This program targets the most "at risk" group for sexual assault and dating violence with information and resources.

The program is presented through a classroom format to students at local schools. Schools are offered two and three day presentations on sexual assault, dating violence and/or sexual harassment. The presentations are interactive and dynamic, utilizing open discussion, role-plays, handouts and PowerPoint presentations.

What teachers and students have said about Turning Point presentations

"Sexual assault and date violence are topics that our students do not always handle well, but the clear method of delivery and frankness provided by you and your colleagues created a positive atmosphere in which students could learn and share."
-Shelby J. H. Counselor

"I'm glad you talk about this (rape), because I was sexually assaulted and so were a lot of my friends; some even by their family. So maybe now people will be more informed and alert on this subject."
- Anonymous Stevenson H.S. Student

"The rapport established with the students was instrumental in relaying the message to address this most important subject matter. The role-playing engaged the students in a meaningful way and made it a valuable learning experience for all."
-North Lake H.S. Teacher

"I learned so many things that I didn't realize before. Some of the things I thought were normal in a relationship but really are not. Thank you."
-Anonymous Malow J. H. Student
